I watched my wife and daughters go through the yearly exercise of preparing, cooking and baking for a few days prior to Thanksgiving. Well, it was as always delicious.

During Dinner it was my wife, myself, my children and their significant others at our table. We also invited a family friend to join us that had no dinner plan so it was very nice to have him.

I sat at the head of my table and listened to the laughter and conversation around the table and was quietly thinking about all the people that have sat around this table over the last 50 to 60 years. This diningroom set was my moms and dads for 50 or so years and before that it belonged to another family.

I remembered the memories of my childhood sitting around this extended table with my family and all 4 of my grandparents all the time. Holidays and every Sunday was family dinner day after church of course.

I remembered all those  that were no longer here and took solace knowing that they were watching over us. In my mind I thought to myself this is our time. Our time to make way for the next generation to be raised up. A generation that can help to turn this world around to see God as their salvation.

My parents and grandparents did their job back in the day spending large amounts of time around that table guiding us all with their faith and wisdom.

I feel hopeful that the apathy and lack of active faith of the last few generations of people is coming to an end and faith is on the rise and that there is a renewed desire for something bigger than self. Something not material but something that is everlasting.God is the answer.

Lets pray that I am right.

Another thing that I had on my mind while I was eating was the fact that somewhere ,someone is hungry. I don’t know what the fix is. It seems like forever we are told about the hungry. Back in my grammar school days we were given rice bowls so that we could as children help the starving children in the world. We saved and filled those boxes with our change money etc. There is always a need and it is terrible.

We are giving and giving and giving and what is going on. People are still starving. I find this very upsetting and tragic.

I think all the time of the homeless when it gets very cold out whether they will seek shelter somewhere. Yet, I have heard of many who chose to stay on the street then to go into a sheltered space.

Thanksgiving and the coming of the Advent Season are a good time to remember the good things in our lives , pray for the things that are a problem and pray for other people’s needs.

Advent is a time that we as Christians are getting ready to celebrate the Miracle of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.

This time is an opportunity for us to be forward thinking and to access who were are in Christ and we would like to be by the end of the Advent Season.

So, tomorrow begins Advent have a beautiful Holiday Season.
