Pastor’s Reflection for September 13, 2015
by Fr. Ron
Dear Parishioners,

This Monday we celebrate the Triumph of the Cross. It is the tree that brings us life. The cross which was the instrument of pain and suffering, is the vehicle that restores our Exaltation of the Holy Crossrelationship with God. We should remember that it was a tree that resulted in our being slaves to sin and under the power of death. God told Adam and Eve not eat from the tree of knowledge in the garden or else they would die. They disobeyed and brought death upon us. But God loved us so much that he sent His Son to pay the price for our salvation. The cross of Calvary is now the tree that brings us hope of eternal life. The blood of that tree cleanse us from sin and the body shed on the cross is our food to strengthen us on our journey to the kingdom of Heaven.

You are encouraged to have a crucifix hanging in your home. To gaze upon the crucifix we see the cost of our salvation. We see the love of God manifested by the death of Jesus. It is an unconditional love wherein Jesus satisfies the justice of God and we receive His mercy. The cross is the school of love, teaching us that love is dying to oneself to serve the needs of another. When Jesus commanded us to take up our cross, it was to die to sin and to be faithful in living in the ways of love. It is not easy to love. We need the grace to die to our self-centeredness. But Jesus shows us that the cross comes before the Resurrection. To live a life that is “life giving” entails dying to all that is unloving in us.

God love you,

FrRon
